New to Marvel? Here's the Best Order to Watch Marvel Movies
Have you recently watched an Avengers or other Marvel crossover movie and found yourself wondering who all these superheroes are? From Iron Man and Captain America to Thor, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Marvel universe can feel overwhelming for someone who is just getting started.
With so many movies and series available, the biggest question is simple: where should you begin? In this beginner-friendly guide, we'll take you through a recommended Marvel movie watch order that introduces the characters gradually, builds your connection with their stories, and leads you toward the unforgettable Avengers movies.
Phase 1 — Meet the important characters
Watch these in this exact order:
-
Iron Man (2008) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Start here. Tony Stark is charismatic, funny and probably the easiest character for a newcomer to get attached to. -
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Optional. You can skip this initially if you don't want to slow down. -
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Introduces more of the wider Marvel world. -
Thor (2011)
Your introduction to Thor, Loki and Asgard. -
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Very important for understanding Steve Rogers/Captain America. -
The Avengers (2012) đĨ
This is your first big payoff.
Iron Man + Captain America + Thor + Hulk + Black Widow + Hawkeye.
If you've never watched Marvel, The Avengers is the movie that will probably make you go, "Okay... I get it now." đ
đ Then things get REALLY interesting
- Iron Man 3 (2013)
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
- Ant-Man (2015)
- Captain America: Civil War (2016) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Doctor Strange (2016) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
At this point you'll understand why people became obsessed with Marvel.
And Civil War is particularly important for you because it brings many characters together. It's technically a Captain America movie, but it feels almost like another Avengers movie.
đ Then comes the big saga
After Doctor Strange:
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
- Spider-Man: Homecoming
- Thor: Ragnarok ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Black Panther
- Avengers: Infinity War đĨđĨđĨ
- Ant-Man and the Wasp
- Captain Marvel
- Avengers: Endgame ❤️
Do not skip Infinity War or Endgame.
Those two movies are essentially the culmination of more than a decade of storytelling.
And watching Endgame after meeting all these characters is a completely different experience from watching it without context.
đˇ️ And then there's Spider-Man...
After Endgame, I'd strongly recommend:
- Spider-Man: Far From Home
- Spider-Man: No Way Home ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
No Way Home is especially rewarding if you've seen the older Spider-Man movies too.
If you enjoy Spider-Man, you can then go backwards and watch:
- Spider-Man (2002)
- Spider-Man 2
- Spider-Man 3
- The Amazing Spider-Man
- The Amazing Spider-Man 2
These aren't part of the main MCU storyline in the same way, but they'll make No Way Home much more enjoyable.
Watch just these 6 movies first:
Iron Man → Thor → Captain America: The First Avenger → The Avengers → Captain America: The Winter Soldier → Guardians of the Galaxy
If after The Avengers you're thinking:
"Okay, I want to know what happens next..."
Congratulations. đ You're officially in the Marvel universe.
Then continue.

3. Physical Box Sets (4K UHD & Blu-Ray)
For high-quality home theater setups, The Infinity Saga Box Set or standalone 4K Ultra HD discs offer uncompressed audio (Dolby Atmos) and exclusive deleted scenes and director commentary tracks.
